Requirements for Participation

Session Requirements

What’s Necessary for Sessions

The Child’s Choice Matters Most

Before anything else, the child must want to participate in our mentoring sessions, so in our introductory session, we will ask the child to affirm that they want to participate.

Our program is built around meaningful relationships, trust, and growth—and none of that is possible without the child’s genuine interest. We’ve learned from experience: when a child truly wants to be here, that’s when transformation begins. If a parent or caregiver is more eager than the child, we recommend waiting until your child expresses an interest or trying out volunteering as a family together.

Ability Expectations

At Rising Hope Rescue Ranch, our ranch is a working environment. While we aim to welcome as many children as possible, we are not equipped to safely accommodate children with significant physical limitations. All participants must be able to move independently around uneven ground, participate in ranch chores, and safely interact with horses and animals. If you’re unsure whether your child’s abilities are a good fit, please reach out—we’re happy to talk it through with you.

Commitment to Scheduled Sessions

Because space is limited and sessions are in high demand, we ask families to make every effort to keep their scheduled appointments. Last-minute cancellations prevent another child from benefitting from that time. If you find that regular attendance is difficult, volunteering as a family may be a better option—serving together is a wonderful way to experience the ranch community.

Family Volunteer Opportunities

If our program isn’t the right fit for individual sessions, we encourage families to consider volunteering together. This is a great way to serve side-by-side, experience the ranch, and be part of our mission. There are always chores to do, horses to care for, and lives to touch.

In order to participate in any Ranch activities, we require that each child on the property have a current release form signed by their legal guardian. YOU CAN COMPLETE THE FORM ONLINE HERE.

What to Wear & Bring

Ranch life can be a bit messy—and a lot of fun! Please come dressed for the outdoors:

  • Closed-toe shoes or boots are required for everyone’s safety (no sandals or Crocs).
  • Long pants are strongly recommended to protect legs during activities and required when riding.
  • Riding helmets are required and provided. All necessary tack is also provided.
  • Bring a water bottle—staying hydrated is important.
  • Dress for the weather (layers for chilly days, hats and sunscreen for sunny ones, rain gear if needed).
  • We suggest clothing you don’t mind getting dirty, as our work involves dust, mud, and the occasional animal mess.
  • If you have allergies to animals or hay, please let us know before your first visit.

If any clothing/equipment issues arise when families arrive for a session, we will do our best to resolve them on site or reschedule for another time.

We’re excited to welcome you to Rising Hope Rescue Ranch—where hope is found, one step, one conversation, and one child at a time!
