What Your Child Can Expect During a Session on the Ranch
At Rising Hope Rescue Ranch, each session is designed to nurture the whole child—body, mind, and spirit. We believe that authentic growth happens through meaningful experiences, hands-on work, play, and quiet moments to reflect on what God is teaching us. Our time together is guided by thoughtful questions, intentional listening, and a desire to see every participant know they are valued and loved by God.
Here’s what you can expect during a typical session:

When you arrive at the ranch, you’ll be greeted by a friendly mentor who’s excited to meet you. We’ll take a moment to get to know each other, answer any questions, and help you feel right at home. Our aim is for every child and family to feel safe, seen, and valued from the very start.
Giving Back: Serving Together
We start each session with a time of service, taking care of the barn and animals. This might mean feeding horses, sweeping the barn, filling water buckets, or other necessary chores. By working side-by-side, we learn responsibility and stewardship, discovering the satisfaction that comes from serving others. It’s a tangible way to practice gratitude and care for God’s creation.
Growing Through Hands-On Learning
Learning at the ranch is always practical and engaging. Each session includes activities that help develop important life skills:
- Horsemanship: Working with our horses teaches patience, trust, and gentle leadership. Children gain confidence as they learn to communicate with an animal much larger than themselves, experiencing the joy of partnership and respect.
- Animal Husbandry: Caring for the daily needs of animals builds empathy and a sense of responsibility. Participants learn that their actions matter and that even small tasks can have a big impact.
- Woodworking: Using simple tools to create something useful or beautiful builds creativity and perseverance. Kids see their abilities grow as they finish a project they once thought impossible.
- Gardening: Tending to plants teaches patience, observation, and the rhythms of growth and renewal. It’s a powerful reminder of God’s faithfulness in every season.
- Archery: Practicing archery develops focus, discipline, and self-control. Each arrow is a chance to learn about aiming for good goals in life.
- Crafts: Creative projects allow for self-expression, problem-solving, and a sense of accomplishment as each child sees their unique ideas come to life.
Each of these activities is an opportunity to build skills and confidence, while also pointing to deeper spiritual truths.
Joyful Play
We believe that play is essential! Whether it’s tossing a ball for the dogs, playing a game, or simply exploring the beauty of nature around the ranch, we make time for fun. Laughter and play help us connect, build friendships, and remember that life is a gift to be enjoyed.
Reflecting on the Journey
As we end each session, we gather to slow down and reflect. This is a time to talk about what we learned, how we felt, and how we saw God at work—both in the ranch activities and in our own hearts. Through intentional conversation and listening, we help each other notice how God is guiding, teaching, and loving us every step of the way.
